Mental health debate

Here is an excellent post by my favorite blogger intueri which presents issues in mental health in the US, especially significant in light of the questions raised after the Vignia Tech tragedy.

In other news, I've been busy with school-work, TA-work, travel, data collection, collaboration on a number of research projects, and sports. I played cricket after a long time with a group of Indian girls this past week. It felt like falling in love (you know the beautiful feeling that washes over you when you wake up in the morning when you're in the intial phases of a romance). I played cricket for my school team for 5 years and it felt so good to be in the field bowling, cheering, shouting, playing.

I just wrote an abstract for the Research Forum of the American College of Emergency Physicians this fall. I don't know if it will get accepted because the ideas are still raw and not fully formed. But, writing the abstract got me thinking about queuing in emergency departments from new perspectives. I also spent a little time in the emergency room today but I was too tired and it wasn't very exciting.

I'm looking forward to parties and cricket this weekend. I've realised that having social events planned over the weekend helps me deal better with being away from home during data collection. I put in more energy into my work knowing that I will have fun at the end of the week.
